Commercial Construction Trends for 2018

As the economy continues to stabilize, commercial construction will grow, spurred by declining office and retail vacancies as well as growing commercial property values. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) predicts that spending will increase 5.8% in 2014 and 8% in 2015.

We predict the top five trends in commercial construction for 2015 will include the following:

  1. A higher demand for ‘Green’ building – Green building construction is no longer a ‘trend’, it is here to stay. Architects, contractors, developers and owners all want to incorporate some aspect of green construction into each project, whether it’s Continue reading“Commercial Construction Trends for 2018”

Service Spotlight – Senior Living

As Florida’s population continues to age, so does the need for more Senior Living and Memory Care Facilities.  We’ve seen an increase in these types of projects throughout Florida. Statistics say that by the year 2030, 70 million Americans will be 65 years old or older, making up 20% of the population, up from 35 million in 2000.  We are witnessing a rise in the demand for boutique-size (50 – 75 units) Memory Care facilities.

In all of Voeller Construction’s senior living projects, we thrive to include hallmark design features such as telemedicine suites, oversized rooms and Continue reading“Service Spotlight – Senior Living”

How To Prepare Your Construction Site For A Hurricane

Hurricane season is upon us. It’s no secret that Florida is at a big risk during hurricane season.  Although hurricanes are not preventable, they are predictable, allowing time to plan and prepare.

In preparation of a hurricane, ensure that the project office or trailer is equipped with a portable battery operated weather band radio and extra batteries. A checklist should be developed to identify areas in need of protection.  Also, develop, maintain and distribute a list of emergency phone numbers and e-mail addresses for employees, sub-contractors, and authorities. Develop a list, procure and store supplies necessary for Continue reading“How To Prepare Your Construction Site For A Hurricane”

The Benefits Of Design/Build Construction

When building a new house, people often turn to architects to kick off the project. However, a different model is becoming more popular: design-build. Instead of dividing tasks between separate architect and construction companies, you can hire a design-build firm to cover your entire project, from the initial design through final construction. This offers many advantages, including:

1. The design-build method of building your custom home saves the owner money on the overall project. Continue reading“The Benefits Of Design/Build Construction”

Service Spotlight: Pre-Construction Services

Pre-Construction Services is a great way for the Developer, Architect, Engineers, General Contractor and trades to work together as a team and create one set of cost effective working documents to submit for permits.

Working with the Developer and Architect during the Design Development phase, also gives Voeller Construction the ability to work on Value Engineering (VE) for the project. Selected key subcontractors are brought in during this phase to help ensure that the building can be built as Continue reading“Service Spotlight: Pre-Construction Services”

Social Media – Are You On Board?

I will be the first to admit it…I was skeptical. When people told me that Voeller Construction NEEDED to be using social media, I really didn’t think it was necessary. Turns out that I was wrong.

In the past few weeks I have secured two projects through social media. I am now a BELIEVER in the power of the internet and social media.

The first project came as a result of LinkedIn. An architect who is a LinkedIn contact of mine saw my profile and referred me to a developer he was Continue reading“Social Media – Are You On Board?”
